Budget woes

I asked Hubs the other day, when we were talking about our budget (as we usually do around the end of the year - woe!), how much money I have in my spending account. We each have a "fun money" account that we can spend on whatever we like.

Well! I was not given the good news I had hoped for. Believe it or not, I've not spent anything from my fun money since May! Seven months of being a good girl! I had run up a stamping debt and was determined to pay it off by avoiding spending on anything until it was gone. And typical of me, I wasn't looking too hard at the balance because I wanted to believe it wouldn't be too long before it was paid off (I get $40 a month).

But I was informed that my account right now has over $700 in debt!

I can tell you that I was totally, TOTALLY bummed hearing this, but that has been the way it is when it comes to stamping and me. Spendspendspend into oblivion.

So it looks like I won't be buying anything new for around 2 years! Woe is me! Hubs could wipe it out with some money from our emergency fund, and that is what it's floating on right now, but I want to do my part in paying it down, and that means learning to love what I already have. So I'd better get used to it, huh? It'll be awhile before I can smell new rubber or open a new shiny thing to play with.

But I'm okay with that.

  1. Hi Kim! Happy New Year to you and your family! I think we can all resolve to try and use some of our older stamps and embellies and still let your creative juices flow. It's not important to always get your hands on the "latest and greatest". What's important is to keep creating because it's a part of your soul. In between the dishes and the laundry.....Hugs to you!

  2. It's good that you keep an eye on it...I've really cut back myself. I kept looking at new spellbinders and then reminded myself of the ones sitting there that I had to have! Maybe you can do a trade if you need something new? But I've been digging through my older stamps just to give them some love again!! :)

    What do you think?

    Many Blessings,

  5. Happy New Year Kim to you and yours. I agree with everyone above. Sometimes limiting yourself to a particular stamp for example and trying to make several different cards from one stamp can unleash new creativity.

  6. I hear you, Kim. In fact, I already posted a challenge on my blog to make a new card with old supplies. Stop by when you get a chance. You have THE creativity to come up with new ways to use what you already have.
Happy New Year! (and New Cards!)
