Boy, is there a lot of info on Copics out there! I feel positively lazy for asking you to do the work of picking colors for me when Google is at my disposal.
First, a big thanks to all the ladies who've discussed the subject of Copics on SCS! You directed me to many wonderful sources.
I've found 2 sources so far that are particularly helpful. Flourishes has Copic collections based on certain flowers or nature themes that really help me look at the colors in a fresh way. The color wheel (pdf) Copic offers is too much for a beginner like me to sink her teeth into. But color groupings I can handle.
The other source is Sharon Harnist's Copic info/tutorial page on her Paperfections blog. She shares lots of great info there.
Thanks mainly to these 2 sources, I'm narrowing down my choices. It's still pretty hard to decide, but their help is easing the burden immensely! Thanks to them both!
Do you know of any really good sources that helped you pick colors?
Thanks for the shout-out, Kim -- good luck with your Copic choices! Let me know if I can be of any more help!
ReplyDeleteI purchased my initial set through Joann's online, using a coupon! Once I received it, I purchased coordinating markers to expand my collection, so that I would have two markers that could be used together (like G21 and G24, etc.). As for colors, the ones I use the most would be my C1 (Cool Gray) that I use for most all of my shadows and I love my BG10 (cool shadow) for snow/ice scenes and even eyes! The marker I have that I use the least would be my black (100). I love the Colorless blender (0) for techniques and hiding mistakes. Also, if you are making the plunge into Copics, you may want to check out some of their Multiliner pens too - I love, love these pens, I would say the balck 0.3 liner is a MUST. Don't forget to check out Marianne's blog for all the tips and techniques...she is awesome! http://ilikemarkers.blogspot.com/. Can't wait to see what you grab and what you create!!
ReplyDeleteHi Kim! I always direct people to Suzanne Dean's blog here. She has helpful video tutorials as well as PDF charts and suggestions for color families. You may want to check Oozak (www.oozak.com) and register to get the lowest prices on Copic markers. Lowest next to buying them from Japan. Have fun! Looking forward to seeing your work with them....
ReplyDeleteKim: Clear & Simple Stamps sellsTrios which are great in helping which ones go together.
ReplyDeleteSharon is a favorite of mine as well, but I also love Suzanne Dean's site here.
Can't wait to see your work when you get your Copics....congrats! I haven't jumped on that bandwagon just yet. Now that I know I can get them locally...with a COUPON....I'm getting revved up!!! Hope you had a wonderful birthday!! God Bless!!
ReplyDeleteI ordered my Copics from Ellen Hutson - she has Stampin' Up! color families which was helpful to me. Debbie Olsen also has some goon info on how to choose colors.
